I had tears threatening to brim over at least three times in this story. This novella deals with the PTSD dealt upon Elizabeth as a result of actions by our perennial bad guy. In this variation, he is beyond the bad described in most stories when his evil touches upon ODG. As the story description tells us the assault is not related as it happens but we come on the scene immediately after the fact, with bruises and scratches, torn clothing and terror being in evidence.Bingley and Darcy have just [...]
What If Someone Attempted an Assault on Elizabeth Bennet?Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsWith admirable daring and sensitivity, author Christie Capps begins her story with our dear heroine just experiencing a very traumatic and terrifying attack. (Potential readers should be made aware that the attack does not happen on page, but its effects are described – i.e. torn clothing, bruises, emotional damage.) An attack like this sadly, is not implausible for this time period, or for the world we live in [...]
“Anyone can hide. Facing up to things, working through them, that’s what makes you strong.” Sarah DessenThis is Elizabeth’s story of survival, recovery, finding the strength to overcome a traumatic event in her life and the effort of putting one foot in front of the other as she makes it through another day.“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I [...]
By not coming forward, you make yourself a victim forever. -- Kelly McGillisThe quote above shows modern thinking about sexual assault. But what if you lived in a time when the woman was ALWAYS considered responsible for her situation?Elizabeth is assaulted. The crime happens pre-story and the tale begins with Elizabeth having successfully fought off her assailant and believing she had killed him.As in her first JAFF story, Ms. Capps relies on olfactory repetitions to elicit emotions. This time: [...]

The perfect book for those who hold the ones who weep. Strength, patience, and peace. Lovely!
A frightful and indelible experience for Elizabeth Bennet which brings out the very best in Fitzwilliam Darcy. A poignant story
This book comes with an emotional warning and it certainly took mine fore a ride. The story surrounds Elizabeth as she deals with and recovers from a tragic event. The steadiness and strength of Darcy helps her cope and deal with the situation. Their love cannot make the issue go away but pulls them through. It finishes with a very sweet epilogue.I will not add details as it would give the book away. I have not experienced such tragedy but the authors approach to the subject is kind, well writte [...]
This is a very different P&P variation that begins with an attempted rape. The victim is Lizzy Bennet and the perp is Wickham. Luckily Lizzy defends herself causing grievous bodily harm to Wickham (Cheers wildly). She is discovered by Darcy who sends Bingley for Mr. Bennet and offers her comfort. Lizzy clings to him because his scent reminds her of her grandfather. In lieu of returning her to Longbourn Mr. Bennet opts to have her go to Mrs. Carr the local midwife, and Darcy goes along as Liz [...]
I liked this very much though I think there will be people who have a hard time with the subject matter.
Absolutely wonderful Something very important lies within these pages, and my heart is full of thanks and joy to the writer for broaching a terrifying subject with such honesty and love. A short little story has accomplished more than hundreds of pages could, and left this reader feeling a deep peace and joy because of it.
Kleenex required. Prior to reading this novella, a JAFF fan shared this book on Facebook. She said this book would make the reader love Mr. Darcy EVEN more, if that was possible. She wasn't wrong. This novella deals with a heart-wrenching topic but also highlights what a good man Fitzwilliam Darcy really is.
This is such a cute read. The subject matter is serious but it is the comfort and support Elizabeth receives from our pemberley stallion that made it cute. I do wish there was a bit more edge to it. I know you're all probably gasping at my words but I like that sense of danger before our H rides on the scene. In this one the action and battle is over physically it is the emotional state that Lizzy is left in that encompasses the story. Not to make that sound as though it's nothing being attacked [...]
This is a beautifully written story of survival and recovery. Elizabeth learns how to become strong again, and Darcy is a tower of strength. Mrs. Carr is a very interesting, original characters who guides Elizabeth on her path. The ending is heartwarming.
Quick but PoignantThis variation, despite not giving any real details of the attack, truly affected me. You get to really feel the pains and the slow healing process through which Elizabeth must go. The loving way that Darcy assists that process is so well written it should be a template for any man who loves a woman who has endured such a horror. Very well done!
This novella begins in the aftermath of a failed attack, with Elizabeth bent over the battered body of her attacker and bruises just forming on her skin. Darcy and Bingley are the first to witness the scene, and Elizabeth clutches at Darcy as her only refuge. His arms and muttered words are the only things holding her together. Darcy and Mr. Bennet quickly plan to take Elizabeth to safety as Meryton revolts at the news of the attack. While the subject matter may be disturbing, I thought the novel [...]
Cute story, fast read. This is a nice easy to read short story, perfect for a day when I am stuck at home. This Elizabeth is not as strong or interesting as some, but I do think that is reasonable given the beginning twist. I don't really think the super fast romance brought on by that twist is very believable.
Very different take on P&P variationInteresting take on the story. Difficult subject matter so I applaud the writer for the story. I can't imagine how this would have been dealt with in this time period.
Eloquent This book goes where others seldom venture and does so in such a way that the reader feels as if they are right in the fray. This is the perfect size novella to read when time is not on your side. I refuse to delve into the story lineyou must do that for yourself.
For PemberleyFor Pemberley is an intense, heartbreaking, yet heartfelt story of our dear couple coming to their happily ever after through a very traumatic event. Well worth the time!
A Sweet, Touching TaleThis short story hooked me in very quickly and kept me reading to the end. When Elizabeth Bennet experiences a traumatic event, Fitzwilliam Darcy shows up to provide comfort and protection. A sweet story.
Left me boredI stopped reading at welcome to Pemberley. Where was our indomitable heroine Lizzy Bennett? And Darcy was less than one dimension.
QuickThis novella was a quick read. A fresh take on the story. Wickham's treachery revealed earlier, confronted and overcome by Lizzy and Darcy.
GoodThis was a lovely story. A tragic event took place, changing Darcy and Elizabeth. He was so sweet with her, especially when she was being a shrew.
