I agree with the early reviewer, here. This story just felt strange. I must tip my (imaginary) hat off for the author for that little twist that ends the book. But I admit, throughout the whole novella, I can't figure out what the author is going. I can enjoy a reincarnation story, but having both ghost and reincarnation at the same time, where one future-self seems to be talking to one-past self in form of a ghost is just, well, weird. But there are some parts of the story I truly loved. Like J [...]
This review can also be found at On Top Down Under Book Reviews.Vic Ledore, a bartender, is a huge antique buff. He can easily spend hours inside an antique shop. He also feels that he can somehow understand each object, that they speak to him in a sense. While checking out the newest antique shop in town, Nooks and Books, Vic discovers an old mirror that he is convinced he must own even if it costs him a weeks worth of tips. The frame itself is art, with carvings of a war scene with soldiers, h [...]
An interesting mix of historical and the present. I liked both Vic and Jules and Vic's interactions with Philippe. There were some weak spots however. If you truly want to read this type of story, I would recommend Time After Time by J.P. Bowie.
Interesting paranormal story, although I admit I'd hoped it might be a little scarier when I saw the mention of a ghost in the blurb.I thought the pacing was nice, getting to see Vic get to know both Philippe and Jules, while watching the carvings in the mirror slowly change. And I did like that I wasn't able to predict the ending, although perhaps I should have been able toAnd any story that can give a happy ending to that many people totally satisfies the sappy fluff lover in me.Favorite Quotes [...]
The writing was good throughout; Ms Ellis puts together some sentences that are rich and full of beauty. The dialog is natural and the story moves well.I think this one would have benefited from more length; it felt rushed. I would have liked more depth to the story. If I'd found a mirror such as this, I would have gone straight to Google to see if there was anything online about its origins or history. The author took no side trips at all. It was a straight line from start to finish. The sex sce [...]
It was quite pleasurable short read. I love books with antique treasures (especially haunted) and I liked how the mirror was described in details. The book might gain from being a little bit longer. The plot wasn´t bad but some parts of the book was quite confusing. Still nice read.
What a weird little ghost story, weird but in a good way. I LOVE the final twist!
I loved this story!!
