This is a well-written, well-plotted novella which had previously been published in an anthology that originally appeared in 2002.Miss Ariadne Lambert is thirty-three, intelligent, rather plain and on the shelf. At a ball, Lovell Melcher, Viscount Ingram overhears her being discussed as very rich and very gullible, likely to fall prey to the first unscrupulous cad who takes an interest in her.Ingram then sees her being approached by the handsome, charming and utterly unprincipled ‘Dapper’ Do [...]

I would say it's more like a 3.5 for me. It's entertaining and sweet, and I'm a sucker for spinster stories. The story is cute and has some great hilarious moments to it, though I wish it were longer. The story suffers from a little too much "tell" instead of "show", and if the author had taken the time to expand it more, it would have pushed it into a solid 4 stars and could be one of my new favorites. As is, I can see myself reading it again.

This was a very short story. Only took me about two hours to read. But what a fun two hours! Neither one of these main characters are gorgeous. He is not above taking his fists to someone who owes him money. He smacks some guy on the chin and calls it even for the debt. She is rather plain and very intelligent. Not even a garnet, much less a diamond, on the marriage mart. But there's something about them both, something that draws them together. Ariadne notices that pull, but she needs him to GO [...]

It’s always fun to see a con artist getting conned. Getting the perspective of those who realize they’re being lied to and watching how they turn the lies around can be great fun in a story. It’s even more fun when the all the lies and plots are put aside to reveal a true romance. It was this kind of scenario in A Rogue’s Rescue that made this short story such a nice little read.It all starts with a bit of gossip: Miss. Ariadne Lambert, having recently come into some money, is entering t [...]

This was a really delightful read. I laughed a lot while reading this book. It was so clever to have a heroine and a hero that were both physically unattractive (or at least not beautiful) who fell in love with each other over time as they discovered personality traits and specific features that were lovable. The story line was cute and I kept turning the pages, wanting to know how the story continued. It had a great beginning, middle and end that were satisfying. The only reason I don't rate th [...]

This was a nice novella with two unique leads. The romance was sweet but could have been more pronounced. I would have loved to see the development of their relationship So the focus seemed to be mainly on the trap whuch was a nice storyline but not totally satisfying

This is a book that intrigued me from the start. The protagonist, Ariadne, had something, some plan, hidden, and it made me keep reading. I really wanted to know what was the plan. She was already at the advanced age, even considered a spinster. She dressed so as not to appear to be in fashion and at balls she was always alone and abandoned sitting. Except for Dorsey, who had heard that she had inherited a fortune from an aunt she cared to death, and there was no one to care for her. Thinking abo [...]

This was a really sweet regency novella. Miss Ariadne Lambert is a thirty-three year old spinster who has recently come into some wealth due to the death of an aunt that she cared for, leaving her vulnerable to dastardly fortune hunters. However, Ariadne is not as vulnerable as appearances dictate, and in fact hatches a plan to expose the fortune hunter, Dorsey. Ariadne’s plans are thwarted when Viscount Ingram, a man with a less than desirable reputation, takes it upon himself to rescue Ariad [...]

luctant rescuee!,With the opening paragraph I felt I was watching a David Attenborough documentary. I swear I heard Attenborough 's dulcet tones coming through as a voice over marking the rituals of the ton in full swing, to wit,'Ingram stalked the crowded ballroom, his presence at the edge making the others nervous, like prey at a water hole that raise their heads and sniff the air to catch the scent of the black panther, rustling through the underbrush.'Enter Viscount Ingram, a man careless of [...]

This little novella [a bit over 80 pages long] was so much fun, I beg you to read it!I loved the plot and the fast pace, but I adored the heroine and the hero equally. It's refreshing to read about a coupe that's a bit older, and our heroine was thirty-three, which definitely made her a spinster.I loved the fact that both were not the "dead-gorgeous" sort and that both had a wonderful sense of humor. It was such a pleasure to read a story that depicted a romance of two people that were "grown-up [...]

Although this book is on the shorter end of the Regency Romances, it was still a good read. The story line was well written out, but to me it seemed to move slowly along. I already knew how the story was going to end, once I had gotten a few chapters into it. This book has the typical regency romance aspects, the fun of being 33 years old and considered a spinster. How the males raced after the women who had money, and how women weren’t taught to handle money. All those aspects where in this [...]

I liked this book. It was a bit different. The heroine could take care of herself and she was on a mission! A friend had a break-up issue and she promised to help with revenge on her lover. She meets a Viscount who travels on the fringe of society and after he spoils many of her attempts to ruin the lover they find they are on the same mission. There is a "Big" twist in the story but no spoilers here. This is a quick read. I could have read it in an evening butI started early and had interruptio [...]

This was a very enjoyable book. It can be difficult to wrap up a story in a novella and Ms. Simpson managed that nicely. Our characters are not your typical regency players -- Ariadne a 33 year old spinster and intelligent to boot; Viscount Ingram is older and had scandal follow him for years (although everyone is not quite sure the exact story). Neither is said to be possessed of good looks but that doesn't really matter. There is some humor and our story's pace keeps moving along. As with any [...]

A very cute short story by Donna Lea Simpson.I was thoroughly delighted to read this story of tested wills, sweet kisses, and a hero who really wants to have his heroine. I will say that I love a steamy book so if you do not like lukewarm romance don't read this one unless you're in the mood of course for an appetizer.Viscount Ingram and Ariadne Lambert's relationship was a test of wills. He has a bad reputation and she is an old spinster looking to marry a dowdy lord! Will these two survive one [...]

I really enjoyed this book. This was the first book by Donna Lea Simpson I have read, it's the first novella I've read as well. Ariadne Lambert and Viscount Ingram are both considered plain looking in the eyes of others, even each others.Yet when Viscount Ingram sees Dapper Dorsey set his sights on Ariadne, he tries to stop her from being Dorsey's latest victim. When he does he finds that Ariadne is more than capable of taking care of herself and not all is what it seems. It had many twists and tu [...]

Some of the characters seemed uneven and not well though-out, but the plot was fun, especially the parts where the heroine plays an idiot. Though I didn’t like the constant reminder that she was intelligent, especially when there was no backing for it at the times it was mentioned.I was surprised at the twist at the end and it sort of reminded me of a Jane Austen story. Though the hero and heroine get the happily ever after, there are other couples who don’t.I received a complimentary copy o [...]

A short fun regency novel. A bit in the style of Georgette Heyer. A couple of absurd situations, intrigue, sweet romance, a bold heroine, humor all the things I love in a regency. Very much appreciated that while bold the heroine does not have sex before marriage as has been happening with so many regency novels. This book stays true to the roots of its genre and I intend to read more by this author.eArc provided but pay netgalley and publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fast read and comes in at just at under 100 pages, but it’s perfect if you are looking for a bite-sized regency romance. A perfect way to spend a pretty summer afternoon, surrounded by lords and ladies and a little intrigue. Full review available at romanticreadsandsuch.wordpress

Well thought out charactersRegency romances are just that; romances. All the rest make them worth reading or not. This one is definitely worth the time. One wants to see the further adventures of the viscount and the spinster, now viscount essential and that is the mark of a good story, real people and a good writer. Can't wait to read another by Miss Simpson.

I truly mean it was "ok." It didn't go where I expected it to -at all. The hero and heroine are apart a lot, but when they are together they had a nice chemistry. The novella would barely rate a 1 on a heat level in terms of the sexy times.

No angst, but I liked the smart and spunky heroine. A little abrubt towards the end, but I guess that's to be expected given the novella format. Yay for bluestocking spinsters!

This was a very clean romance and would have merited another star if it had not been a novella. It is like you just start and meet the characters and before you know it is the end. I wanted more.

Review Copy.

Nicely done.

A little on the short side but an enjoyable read. I like the unconventional characters and the unconventional situations. A strong heroine and a secure hero.

Nice historical romance.

Another entertaining short novella where the heroine is not the most beautiful, but has a brain of her own. More books like this are going to reconcile me with the genre! ;-)
