Lucas is a dark and tortured hero, living his own private version of hell. The only way for him to cope with the anniversary of a tragic event is to drink himself to oblivion. But this year, he is not left alone. His very efficient PA, Emma, braves the storm to deliver an important file and, finding him in such dark mood, she refuses to leave him alone. And then begins the night of no return that changes their professional relationship irrevocably.Emma is sweet and caring. Even with her own shar [...]
As an enduring fan of the HP series, it is a pleasure to stumble across an author I've not read. Sarah Morgan knows how to create a plot that draws you in, and characters that are captivating and interesting. I found myself skipping over the sex scenes! to get back to the plot because I wanted to see what happened next. As a reader who devours a wide range of genres with authors who are known for hot sex scenes, that is saying a lot. This book didn't need the sex, it could have 'faded to black', [...]
Sweet and romantic book. Hero was tortured and hurting after the death of his daughter and his secretary our heroine was a compassionate kind woman who helped him heal! I wish it had a cute epilogue though :(
This is another great read from Sarah Morgan who is an auto-buy for me. I am still steamed up from her Ferrara's and Christiano and his daughter make a brief appearance in this story at a key point for the hero.Lucas Jackson has a past. One night of the year that brings back memories that torture him with guilt and inadequacy. A night where all he wants to do is curl up with a bottle and seek oblivion because nothing works for him. Not mindless sex and riotous parties, or his current mistress ha [...]
Wonderful story! I really liked Emma. Main couple had great chemistry!I love Sarah Morgan's romances! :)
I have never been a big reader of the classic Harlequin line and I usually only read the Nocturne books in their serial lines. For some reason though, the summary drew me in and I decided to give them a try.The first third of the book is about Emma and Lucas being trapped in a fancy castle that Lucas owns with his partners/friends from work. There is a bunch of narration in the first third of this book to set up the story that will follow in the rest of the pages. While I appreciate some initial [...]
A NIGHT OF NO RETURN by USA Bestselling Author Sarah Morgan is a November 2012 release by Harlequin Presents. Lucas Jackson has a tortured past and a love deprived childhood. So he has no idea how to love and he believed himself incapable of falling in love. One snowstorm night while he had craved complete isolation his secretary, Emma Gray arrived just to deliver an important file. What she had not counted on was that she could not leave him alone in this condition and go.Emma had subdued her f [...]
Any reader looking to pick up a quick, easy read will enjoy this book. The characters have complex pasts and a host of emotional baggage that ramps up the angst in the story. However, it might have been nice to see just a little more pay off on the promising climax. The hero’s lightning quick change of heart and the resulting resolution leave something to be desired.KaitlinReviewer for Coffee Time Romance & MoreOfficial Review @ Coffee Time Romance & More
3 1/2 stars. Sarah Morgan is becoming my go-to author for Harlequin Presents that aren't cookie cutter. (Sadly, she also seems to be the author who specializes in continuity errors. What is up with that?) This is a bit of a tearjerker, with a guilt-ridden hero and a sensible, compassionate heroine. Good read.Trigger warning: (view spoiler)[death of a child. (hide spoiler)]
It was mellow and somber at times, tragic and passionate at other. It had a good balance to it and I liked it, a lot. I thought that it was well written and edited VERY well. I was impressed with it totally. It was a very 'smooth' story.
M&B at its bestLove Sarah Morgan and her characters. They always sweep you away on their journey and the adventures are amazing. Another good book and the itch to read the next one in the series.
Sarah Morgan is one of my favorite writers for the Presents line. She always has heroes that are lovably alphas. (You know the kind you don't want to knock in the head because they are super arrogant). In A Night Of No Return, Emma is Lucas' PA. He leaves and important file at the office and Emma, like the good PA she is braves a snowstorm to take it to him, not knowing that he wants to be away from everyone for a personal reason.Lucas is a damaged hero and Emma is a heroine with some issues of h [...]
Lucas just wants to be left alone and he goes to his estate to do just that. Unfortunately his soon-to-be ex-gf decides to throw a surprise party for "him" which he promptly disbands and then also gets rid of the woman. He's just wanting to be alone so he can drink himself into a stupor but things don't always work the way you want them to. He's hardened his heart against love believing himself to not be worthy of anything more than a quick affair.Emma is a good girl working for Lucas as his ass [...]
Reviewed at: HarlequinJunkieA Night of No Return is a engaging and emotionally satisfying readI love office romances and this one though a Boss/PA romance is set completely out of the office environment, which provides the perfect setup for this story. Lucas drives out to Chigworth Castle to drink himself to oblivion and chase away his demons on this eventful anniversary. When Emma realizes Lucas has left behind an important file they have been working on she decides to drive out and deliver the [...]
The story of A Night of No Return is not exactly badere simply isn't enough of it. Or perhaps there's too much of it. Sarah Morgan has a penchant for repeating things ad nauseum. The tug of war between Emma and Lucas at the beginning of the story is insufferable. Lucas explicitly tells Emma to leave him alone and she defies him. This happens for what feels like a hundred times, across several chapters. Once the two finally stop fighting, they consummate their nonexistent relationship in one of t [...]
A decent enough boss/employee romance, but I was a little underwhelmed. I found the cause of Lucas' heartache to be less impactful and less angst-ridden than it was intended to be. The fault lies mostly with the telling vs. showing writing style. I also felt there was less romantic tension and chemistry between the leads. All in all, I don't think this was on par with Sarah Morgan's usual quality. I'm glad this wasn't my first stab at her writing, otherwise I would have wondered what all of the [...]
I liked this one until the end. The hero professes the entire time he can't 'love' so I didn't feel convinced he actually loved the heroine at the end. I needed to SEE him not just hear it from him. What I saw was not convincing enough. But he is a nice tortured hero - good and cranky which I always like. Also nice heroine.Review to come.
Fun and sexy -- sort of like THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA if Andy's boss were a rich, hunky guy!
Rating 3.5 starsDecent book, looking forward to reading Avery's book.
This was sweet.Losing who he lost was awful and I felt so bad for him and to be fair that made me like him more. I enjoyed reading this book, it was romantic and it was cute. Her being a sort of parent with her sister to their brother it was nice to see siblings sticking together. One of the better M&B reads recently.
I really enjoyed this. The characters had flaws, but they were realistic. Not overbearing, but really cute. I like how the story flowed, and kept me intrigued and now I want to go back and read her other series about Christiano.I also liked how Emma stuck to her beliefs about her brother and her morales when it comes to having an affair with the boss.
Yes, this is a perfect book to curl up with with drawl worthy Lucas. There were moments I loved the banter and back and forth, secondary characters were nicely fleshed out without dominating the story, and enough heat to keep you warm even if you didn't have a fireplace like Lucas does!
Another engaging book by a favourite author. Wasn't too sure initially that Lucas could redeem himself. Should have had more faith in Morgan.
Well written; gets to the heart of their emotions despite the clearly Presents set up :)
What a beautiful love story. Hero was handsome and rich but he wasn't a jerk, heroine was smart and sassy. Great romance!

This review was posted at Tsuki’s Book Blog on September 14, 2013. I'm on the tail-end of my Harlequin binge so figure this will be last one or two for awhile (or until I review the two Christmas HPs I got through NetGalley). Either way I'm a bit Harlequined (My word!) out for the moment so I'm looking at some new reading material. I'll jump right into this one then.Lucas has issues just like every other HP hero. He had a terrible go at a relationship. He lost someone close to him, etc etc. Wh [...]
n A Night of No Return we meet Lucas, a successful architect who, due to reasons from his past, once a year locks himself away from the world essentially to drown his sorrows. His kind and caring PA Emma risks her safety one stormy snowy night to drive out to where Lucas hidden himself away to deliver very important documents that he's left at the office. These documents are required for his upcoming meeting with Christiano Ferrara from Once a Ferrara Wife. Emma and Lucas are snowed in and so be [...]
