3.5 starsGod, this needed to be longerd edited. Such great characters and the potential for an awesome story. Scarred, bitter and lonely sheriff Morgan fights his attraction to charismatic, card shark and dandy, Dixon. The story builds up to and ends with a sizzling bout up of angry foreplay against prison bars. I wanted more!!I love R.Cooper. She writes well. UST and angst and wounded MCs (my weakness) so beautifully. I don't always need an HEA, buutI would have liked someone to have pushed her [...]
This is one of those slow-burning stories that have a lot of great detail, wonderful descriptions and characters who are caught in their time and circumstances with nowhere else to go. It brings alive not only the feeling of the 'Wild West', but also the way it might have affected gay men. On top of that, Morgan and Dixon almost live on opposite sides of the law, being a sheriff and a professional gambler. If you're looking for action and a happy ending, this is not the story for you. If you like [...]
3.5 starsah the potential in this one.
This review can also be found at Brief Encounters ReviewsThis is one of those stories where nothing much physically happens because the development is all in the churning and changing emotions of the character. In this case the character is town marshal, Morgan, who sees Matt get off the stage coach. Matt is an occasional visitor to the town who turns up like a bad penny to fleece the cowboys of their hand earned money at cards. Morgan refuses to head back to his room at the hotel, knowing that [...]
Damn to short, but nice one, indeed. It was enjoyable to re-read it again! I wish it was longer one!!
ooooo. I liked the tension in this short story. Would love to have a novel with the backstories of these characters!
This story was an unexpected pleasure for me. Based in a setting which I'm not usually inclined to readhistorical western was amazingly well-written.This is a short story that uses that fact to its full advantage; in fact, the author seems to revel in the short story aspect. We get a glimpse at the relationship between these two characters, a rugged, cowboy lawman and a cultured, drifting gambler. They come from two different worlds, and yet have similarities that seem both shocking and not to t [...]
3.5 stars writing is great, but it is little more than a scene. so, it feels dissatisfyingver is misleading story is historical, not contemporary.
